The context

A youth-led initiative on the Pacific coast of Guatemala that trains mariscadoras in mollusc harvesting and ecological monitoring inside Sipacate-Naranjo National Park. The project centers women whose work — gathering molluscs in the estuary — had long been overlooked by research and policy, joining Indigenous knowledge with marine science.

What we did

  • A film about an Iris Prize–winning initiative, for The Iris Project
  • Cinematography and stills in the field, with the community
  • Field production with MakerChange (UK)

The story

Brought in by MakerChange to lead cinematography, stills and field production, we worked on the ground with the community to build a portrait of women reclaiming their role as guardians of the mangrove, and of their own future.
